Friend

When the whole world spits and kicks at you while you’re down,
When darkness engulfs you, no shore in sight as you drown;
When the mountains seem too high, the seas too deep to cross,
When society spurns your winnings, only jeers at your loss;
When your soul has shattered into pieces, more broken than ever,
When you have been strong for far too long, your heart refuses to be braver;
When thorns pierce your bruised feet and you want to give up the trail,
When you feel like your heart has been caught under a dark spell;
You will find a hand reaching out to you, pulling you to the shore,
Soothing your throbbing feet so the trail doesn’t hurt anymore;
Wings to carry you across mountains, ships to sail you through seas,
Grey stormy clouds that disappear to leave behind a gentle breeze;
Holding your heart and soul together, shielding you from all hurt,
You will find my hand holding yours till the end, as it did at the very start.
